‘Bali, Dancing for the Gods’
Horniman Museum, London
This temporary exhibition is based on the Horniman’s rich archive collection as well as new acquisitions. Photographic images and original film footage from the 1930s were bequeathed by the dance critic and Bloomsbury scholar Beryl de Zoete.
The exhibition provides an opportunity for children to try on some of the masks and costumes central to Balinese dance tradition and experiment with shadow puppets. It also includes a space for the display and live demonstration of a magnificent 16 piece gamelan orchestra.
