Barleylands Farm Centre
Billericay, Essex

With subsidies from DEFRA to support diversification in the agricultural industry, the owners of Barleylands farm have established a private heritage centre dedicated to farming implements and the history of farming.

As part of a paid entry visitor centre, the design brief for the centre demanded something educational and engaging for all the family; in fact, much the same requirement as many local authority owned museums.

In keeping with the rustic setting and the basic shed that houses the collection of tractors and tools, the interactives are low-tech and robust. Raised platforms and walkways help to give definition to the extensive collection of tractors and give visual access to smaller, wall mounted objects while keeping them safely out of reach.
