‘Local Heroes’,
London Museums Agency

‘Local Heroes’ was a London Museums Agency initiative to help twelve local history museums forge links with their Black and Asian communities.

Each museum invited a prominent Black or Asian Londoner to donate an object to its collection and put on record their remarkable personal story.

An exhibition featuring the twelve objects and stories was designed by Objectives for the atrium of the Greater London Assembly’s City Hall.

After that, the displays were divided into their component parts and installed in the borough museums where they originated. Locally, the displays were made a focal point for events celebrating the hero, and as ongoing encouragement for the communities to use the museum to explore and celebrate their place in London’s rich heritage.
