Melton Carnegie Museum, Melton Mowbray Through the interplay of objects, set designs, interactives and strong graphics, this Heritage Lottery funded refurbishment tells the story of Melton Mowbray. Large scale voiles imprinted with striking images are a key element, engaging visitors and drawing them to the wealth of material on display. A controversial display on hunting attempted to present both sides of the argument and offered an opportunity for visitors to leave their own feedback on the subject. A gallery space was fitted out to provide a contemporary backdrop for temporary exhibitions and the museum’s own collection of paintings. The Town & Country gallery is a later addition, located in a new-build extension. It focuses on modern developments in the region and is notable for an issues-based stance that doesn’t hold its punches. Photography ©Andreas Schmidt |
